My first birth photography experience.
I left my home at midnight. The labor I was traveling to document was moving along surprisingly fast- 7cm at the first check in at the hospital! Getting into my car I remember thinking- Wow, Candace you are a tough one!
As I pulled out of my driveway, I rolled down my windows and turned my music up. I drove and drove– down I-70–down I-270. The bright moon followed me along my way.
About 40 minutes later, I pulled into the hospital area, parked my car, and made my way to labor and delivery. I found the room I needed to find and opened the door. I saw Candace right away and could tell in her eyes that she had already delivered. She labored completely naturally and looked beautifully calm, but so drained. Her wonderful husband came right up to me with the biggest smile on his face and said, “Two minutes! She gave birth two minutes ago- everything moved so fast!” I could not believe it. He went over to his new baby girl and invited me to come in and hang out for a bit. Immediately my heart filled with gratitude as I observed the doctor and nurses working in the room. They moved around so gently and quietly taking such good care of the mother and new little baby. I got my camera out and started clicking away. Here is a little of what I saw.
